Normal blood sugar levels: fasting, after meals and random

Medically reviewed by Dr. N. S. Santosh Varma, MBBS, FIM, FIDM, FICCM · Reg. APMC/FMR 112686 · Reviewed October 2026

Quick answer

For adults without diabetes, a fasting blood sugar of 70 to 99 mg/dL is generally normal, 100 to 125 mg/dL suggests prediabetes, and 126 mg/dL or above on two occasions suggests diabetes. Two hours after eating, below 140 mg/dL is normal. A random sugar of 200 mg/dL or more with symptoms also suggests diabetes. A doctor confirms the diagnosis.

Low blood sugar warning
